STRIPER FISHING HAS BEEN OUTSTANDING THIS FALL AND EARLY WINTER SEASON!!!!  WE HAVE A FEW WEEKS LEFT OF SALMON SEASON BETWEEN KNIGHTS LANDING AND RED BLUFF.  DUCK HUNTING HAS BEEN OUTSTANDING DESPITE  THE LACK OF WEATHER.  BEFORE YOU KNOW IT THE SPRING STRIPED BASS RUN WILL KICK IN TO HIGH GEAR.  IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A HUNTING OR FISHING ADVENTURE IT'S TIME TO GET IT DONE!!!

December 29, 2008 - Happy Holidays - Duck Hunting has been outstanding the last 3 weeks so needless to say the boats haven't really been getting a lot of use. There have been some good striper reports and some OK salmon fishing reports but that will come to end with the arrival of the new year.  Here's to an awesome 2009!

December 1, 2008 - Usually I complain about wind in the Delta, recently I wish there was wind because the fog is so thick, YIKES it's scary.  Jacob and his dad John were on hand when we launched the boat at 7:00 am.  After talking about our options, breakfast in Rio Vista or fishing.... we trolled for a time in 3 Mile Slough to see if the fog would lift.  At whatever point (around 10:00am) I realized that this fog was here to stay and decided to trust the electronics and follow the old trails on the GPS to Franks Tract.  Upon reaching our goal we had  some success while tossing fish traps and pencil poppers.  You think I'm kidding, we couldn't see more than 50 yards ahead.  The Fog never lifted, in fact the boat finally got on plane at 3:00 pm when we put the rods away and headed back up 3 Mile to Brannan Island.  In spite of the weather we ended up with 3 keeper stripers to 8lbs while trolling and plugging, then released another 1/2 dozen shakers, I even landed my personal best 7 1/2 lb Largemouth while tossing a pearl fish trap.  Take a look at Jacob who landed this nice 8lber while tossing a pencil popper in Franks Tract.  We need some rain and cloud cover soon to get rid of this FOG!

November 18, 2008 - This weather is unbelievable right!  The past couple of days 75 degrees and not a breath of wind anywhere.  Sunday we checked out the new boat launch at Tisdale for some Salmon fishing.  Trolled spinners down river on the electric motor for 1 nice 15lb buck.  Monday headed back down to the Delta for more Striper fishing.  Tossed fish traps and pencil poppers for 6 shakers in Frank's Tract.  We soon tired of that and started heading west trolled deep divers looking for some bigger fish.  Trolled Broad Slough and Montezuma for a couple of hours with only 1 hit.  Check it out!  36lbs caught and released.

November 10, 2008 - Sorry had a computer crash but we are back in business now!  There's so much going on right now it's hard to talk about everything but here goes!  The token Salmon season is open, the fall Delta Striper bite is in full swing, there's lots of Trout on the Sac, Trinity River Steelies, and were even shooting some Ducks.  Opening day of Salmon season I jumped on board with Pro Staffer Aaron Zanocco and fished in Red Bluff.  To say it was raining, windy and cold would be an understatement!!!  The Delta Striper bite is awesome right now, we have been taking fish both trolling and plugging.  This last Tuesday afternoon from about 3:00pm to dark we landed on a feeding frenzy of stripers in Franks Tract where we hammered 32 nice stripers to 8lbs and even a couple of black bass.  Pro Staffer Jason Thatcher is out in the drift boat hammering away at the hard fighting Rainbows on the Sac.  Check out the recent pics and give us a call.

October 7, 2008 - Teamed up with John Simlick today to take our good friend Mark Foster out to Vierra's and try our luck at trolling up some Stripers.  The tides looked good, the weather forecast even better.  Turned out it was true!  We put a few miles on the boat today looking for some bigger fish that ultimately alluded us but in the mean time we managed to box nice limits of keepers for Tacos.  Trolling shallow Yozuri's was the ticket and the hot color was blue/silver anywhere from the Rio Vista Bridge and below.  If your interested in catching some nice stripers now's the time to get on board.

September 26, 2008 - It was a who's who of California's Salmon Fishing Guides today on the Klamath River.  Of course you all know there's nothing going on as far as Salmon fishing in the Valley until November 1 so many of our friends have moved their operations to the only game in town.... the beautiful Klamath River!.... and by the way.... who could blame them!  It would be worth it just to hang out for a few weeks there for nothing other than the scenery. However, with top notch Salmon fishing on tap, it's even better!!!!  The Nor Cal Outdoor Guides Pro Staffers made the long journey to Klamath Thursday afternoon to fish with Jerry Bass.  Dustin Parsons, Aaron and Jimmy Zanocco, John Simlick and myself met Jerry at his launched Jetcraft at 6:00am.  It was cold, crisp, awesome and dark on the boat ride up the river to our fishing grounds called the Strump Hole.  We drug our bait through that and many other holes during the day while while every so often being interrupted from the sightseeing only to do battle with 6 chrome bright rocket Chinooks.  These fish must have just made their way from the ocean that previous night or the morning because they had every scale and fought like a champ only to get "bonked" and politely escorted to the fish box.  Check out the pics from today's excursion.  If you want your Salmon fix.... we can make the arrangements to experience action just like you see here.

September 11, 2008 - All right.....All right.... I know!  Well it's been a long summer without a Salmon season in the Sac Valley so I've been waiting for some decent Striper action to get motivated to head to the Delta again.  Anyway the Delta Stiper bit is very good right now.  Trolling shallow Bombers and Yozuris have been the ticket the last couple of weeks.  The key to optimum success is to know where to be when the tide is right.  If your trolling in areas where there's off color water and lots of floating debris you are just wasting time.  Find clearer slower moving water and there's likely to be some biting fish.  Our last several outings we found schools of fish and wore them out for pass after pass until they quit biting then moved on.  Check out the pics of the trips over the past couple of weeks and get ready for some more solid action this fall!

August 11, 2008 - Here we go!!!  The Delta Striper bite is gettin good.  My hunch paid off after taking a look at the tides and the wind prediction.  It was a blue bird day!  No wind what so ever and the bite was on.  The Custom Weld was in the water and on the troll at Vierra's at 6:30 am, Parker nailed the first of our bunch of shakers right off the bat.  After that it was a mixed bag of keepers to 16lbs and shakers while trolling Yozuri's and Bombers in 6-10 feet of water.  I didn't keep good count but I'm sure we landed over 15 total fish and kept 6 for the grill. The largest fish of the day caught by Craig weighed in at a conservative 16lbs and was released to fight another day.  There are lots of fish in the system right now which is very encouraging for our fall run.  Get ready!

August 10, 2008 - June and July have historically been Salmon fishing months on the Feather for the Nor Cal Outdoor Guides Pro Staffers but of course this year is a different story!  With no river Salmon season until November we've been taking a break waiting for November Salmon and the Delta striper bite to kick in to high gear.  It's that time again for Delta Stripers!!!  This week I begin chasing the fall striper run in the Delta.  For the next several months I'll be hanging around Vierra's, Wimpy's and B&W resort trolling and pluggin away at those new linesiders.  Hang on to your rod because it's sure to be good.  I'll post reports each fishing day.  It's gonna be fun!

June 10, 2008 - With big, big winds I didn't have much hope for the 1st annual fishing trip with some college buddies, but a great time was had by all.  Lance flew in from Montana, Danny from Phoenix, and DB who now lives in SF all made there way over to Rio Vista for a long weekend.  John Simlick and I already had the trailer parked, the boat in the berth and the rods ready.  Although the fish didn't really cooperate that well in the stained water we managed to find 7 keepers and and host of shakers to keep our spirits up.  Shallow trolling bombers and yozuri's in various colors fooled those few fish.  Believe it or not we even found a few milting males.  If the water were clearer I think you could still get em pretty good on the troll.  The food was outstanding, the drinks were cold and it was great to get back in touch with some old friends.  Take a look at some of our pictures.  That will pretty much take care of our Striper fishing for the next couple of months while we wait for the fall return.  Thanks guys for a great weekend.

May 28, 2008 - So the Striper fishing slowed down a bit after the last full moon and the Pro Staffers have been getting fish here and there.  The Delta fishing has really been slow and dirty for some reason along with the big winds.  On the positive side the Shad fishing has been "unbelievable" on the Feather River.  Our last 3 trips yielded 26 fish for 2 anglers on an evening trip (3 hours), yesterday 61 fish for 3 anglers, and 58 for 3 fisherman today.  (We have a clicker on board to keep track).  Check out the pics of some of our action.  My arm is sore!!

May 13, 2008 - The call this morning from Pro Staffer Aaron Zanocco says it all... It doesn't get any better!  He and his clients had limits of keeper stripers with a pair of males to 30lbs drifting live minnows this morning.  Of course the 2 big fish were released to spawn another day.  If your looking for wide open action on some world class fish it's time to book your trip.  With fishing this good our dates won't last long.  Give me a call or an email and I'll get you on board one of the Pro Staff boats.

May 12, 2008 - Again I say Wind Wind Go Away!!!!!  I'm even more over it than I was a couple of weeks ago.  Anyhow on to the fishing.  The Delta Striper bite has gotten tougher with the big tides and the big winds but if you put in your time there are still plenty of fish to catch on the troll. Most of the fish have moved up river on their annual spawning migration....  Pro Staffer Aaron Zanocco reported in again today with limits of new fish up river from Knights Landing.  The new fish should be around for some time and we have just a few openings left so get in on some of the great action.

May 9, 2008 - Striper fishing continues to be good on the Sacramento River in the Colusa area.  Pro Staffer Aaron Zanocco reported in with limits of fish for his clients the past 2 days and some big fish are on the prowl.  Aaron landed 2 fish today in the high teens and one very nice 19lb hen that posed for some pics and was of course released yesterday.  Further down river in the Delta fishing continues to be good and reports of some toads have been landed in the past few days.  Remember everyone it is essential to release those big fish!  Take photos, release the fish to fight and more importantly spawn another day.  The breaking news today about our very limited Salmon season should be enough to make you stop and think about how fragile our system can be.  If it's nearing the teen's in pounds it should be released..  Still some dates available for solid Striper action.  Oh yeah, there are Shad in the river!  Good luck, JR.

May 6, 2008 - Shad and Striper fishing is where it's at right now.  The spring run of Striped Bass is in full force from the Delta all the way up to the Colusa area at this point.  The fish are in all phases of the spawn now, we are catching new fish, ripe fish and lots of spawned out fish.  It's going to be good for a few more weeks so get your plans made soon.  On a side note......  How many Shad do you want to catch?  It's a wide open bite on shad right now... When the Cottonwoods are blooming and the Pelican's are flying you know it's time to get out the shad darts.  We landed 40+ last night.

April 27, 2008 - Wind, Wind go away!  I'm over it!  Fishing continues to be on the great side lately with reports from the Delta clear up to Colusa and the Pro Staffers are on top of them.  Shallow trolling in Rio Vista, tossing worms, top water plugs, drifting live baits will work all up and down the river.  It's just about getting on board with one of our guides to make it happen.

April 20, 2008 - Despite the big full moon, big tides and the strong winds this week WE STILL GOT EM!  Sunday we again hosted the boys from Folsom Chevrolet but this time for some striper action.  Between our 2 boats we landed well over 20 keepers to 12lbs trolling shallow yozuri's and bombers from the mouth of the Old Sac and below, then even in to the San Joaquin river.  We did very little combat trolling today!  New fish have moved in to the system while some fish are spawning, so we are in various stages all over the river right now.  Check out the pics from today.

April 18, 2008 - The Striper fishing is heating up and it's time to get on board right away!  The fish are scattered from the Delta to Chico at the moment and the big females are starting to show.  Techniques include, trolling minnow plugs, drifting live minnows, tossing worms, top water plugs, and swim baits are all getting fish right now.  It's important to know what your doing and where to be at the right times for the best success.  John Simlick landed and of course released a 25lb hen on Tuesday while drifting minnows on the Sac and our friend Craig landed one about 18 on the Mokelumne shallow trolling.  It's really important that you release any fish over 12 or so lbs right now because they are the spawners that we need to keep our fishery going.

April 13, 2008 - Striper fishing has and will continue to be very good in the Delta and as far up the river as Chico.  If your looking to get a limit of fish, right now is the time to get on board.  In the Delta we are "speed trolling" shallow minnow plugs just about as fast as the kicker motor will go.  Up the river, drifting live jumbo minnow's or tossing worms against the bank seem's to get er done.  We don't squat and rot on our boats!  Check out the pics.

March 31, 2008 - Striper fishing is kicking in to HIGH GEAR right now from the Delta to Colusa.  There are a lot of fish in the system and lots more yet to come.  Reports from upriver were great but down in the Rio Vista area the tides, wind and fish cooperated for an outstanding day.  Myself, Dave and Tommy landed 20 fish trolling shallow Bombers and Yozuri's all day.  We were staying in touch with a couple of our buddies boats and they both had similar success while trolling shallow as well.  The key to success is hitting the right spots at the right tide and stay on em when you find em.  Check out our pics from today.

March 22, 2008 - Well the fish are starting to show on the Sacramento River but are moving fast.  It's hard to stay on top of them so you must put on the miles to find em again.  The fishing has been best on the incoming tide and shallow bombers and Yozuri's are the ticket.  Troll fast and hard and you'll get a few bites.  Once you find em stay one em until they stop biting.  Check out the pics of the last couple days.  Parker (left) battled this nice 4lber on Friday, just 1 of our 7 fish.  Garreth (middle) was all smiles when he nailed this nice 8lber above the Iselton Bridge on Saturday which was our largest of 4 that day.  Then on Monday, Dad, Dave and Brian show off 8 of our 10 keepers power trolling the Old Sac and Steamboat Slough for our fish (right).  Again, once we found em, it was fast and furious but it takes some miles to do so.  Get on board quick, who knows how long it will last.

March 10, 2008 - I know, I know...... It's  been a couple of weeks!  So we've been at Amador fishing for Cutbows, in the bypass fishing for Catfish, on the Sac near Colusa fishing for Sturgeon, at Folsom Lake fishing for King Salmon and now it's time to get serious!!!!!!  IT'S STRIPER TIME!!!  We've been waiting patiently for the water to both warm and clear enough to head out to the Delta for some Striper action.  It didn't take long today out of Vierra's before we found some clearer ish? water and some biting fish.  We landed 13 keepers to 10lbs and kept our 6 fish in the 4-7lb class for table fare.  Check out the pics below!.  It's that time!

February  25, 2008 - Another round of storms pounded it's way through Nor Cal the past few days and took us off the water again for a bit.  Up until then Jason Thatcher was still catching lots of Trout on the Sac near Red Bluff.  It shouldn't take long to get back to that action as the water will clear quickly.  Sturgeon fishing should improve after the river settles.  It's currently on the rise but will level off in the next couple of days and give us a chance to go after those big boys again.  Next week should be just about the beginning of the Striper trolling opportunities in the Delta as the water is warming and continually clearing.  Very quickly it will all be upon us so get ready!

February 6, 2008 - Pro Staffer Jason Thatcher continues his fish catching ways aboard one of his custom made Fish Craft drift boats.  The action is outstanding for both gear or fly fisherman.  While the temperatures are cold, the action keeps you fired up for the next bite.   Sac River Wild Trout continues to be a great bet as well.  Check out some of Jason's recent action. What's up next you ask?  How about Sturgeon, Stripers or even some Catfish.  It's time to start booking your trips!

January 25, 2008 - Pro Staffer Jason Thatcher is catching fish, lots of fish in the drift boats.  His clients are experiencing some great action on Steelhead on the Trinity and Trout on the Sacramento Rivers.  Sturgeon and Striper fishing have been slow, this weather has muddied up the water but it continues to be too cold to stimulate a good bite.  The forecast doesn't see much end in site for this rain but I guess we need it.  It won't be long and we'll be back on the Sac, San Joaquin, Feather etc looking for monster bites.  Check out some of Jason's action.  Want to catch a trophy Catfish?  Shoot me an email and I'll tell you how!  Give us a call and get on board.

January 16, 2008 - The brightest spot is the Trinity River!  Pro Staffer Jason Thatcher has been having great action for both gear and fly fisherman.  Check out some of the action this past week.  I managed to get away for a day and get in on some of the action myself with Jason and our friend Craig.  Craig managed to handle this nice buck that went over 10lbs.  We landed 4 beauties and shook several more off.  Thanks Admiral for a great day on the water!  The Delta and Rivers should begin to clear up after our big storms in the next week or so.  Water temperatures are creeping back up and soon, very soon it will be back at the stripers and sturgies!

January 11, 2008 - Mother Nature roared in the New Year with one of the worst storms in recent memory.  The Sacramento River is high and muddy and likely put the finishing touches on what was mostly a bust of a Salmon Season.  Up to that point a few salmon were being caught in the Red Bluff area.  There is one shining bright spot at the moment for Fishing......  The Trinity River has been kicking out unbelievable action for both gear and fly fisherman.  Pro Staffer Jason Thatcher has been hooking lots and lots of Steelies out of the drift boat the past several days.  Check out some of the pictures of this outstanding action.  Give us a call - Jason has some days open and would like to put you on board.

January 2, 2008 -  Happy New Year to everyone!  Fishing is a tad slow throughout, however Pro Staffer Jason Thatcher is in Red Bluff getting in on some of the last, ever so late, yet very good late season salmon run.  On top of that he is experiencing some outstanding Trout and Steelie action while fishing the Sacramento and Trinity rivers.  Duck Hunting has continued to be outstanding and with the impending weather for the next few days it's only going to be better.  Up next is Delta Striper and Sturgeon.  Get ready to be on board, it's gonna bust loose soon!
